Loco Kavach Installations

Loco Kavach is an advanced Train Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) developed indigenously in India to enhance railway safety by preventing train collisions. It is designed to provide real-time warnings and automatic braking in case of potential collisions, ensuring the protection of passengers, train crew, and assets. The system is installed in locomotives and communicates with other trains and trackside equipment to maintain safe distances and speed limits.

Installing Loco Kavach in locomotives involves the integration of onboard control units, GPS-based location tracking, RF communication modules, and display units for the loco pilot. These components work in coordination with trackside infrastructure to relay critical information and commands. Proper installation ensures that the system can intervene automatically when human error or signal lapses pose a risk, effectively functioning as an additional layer of safety.

The installation process is carried out under strict guidelines and includes site surveys, compatibility assessments, hardware mounting, cabling, power supply integration, and testing. Post-installation, the system undergoes rigorous calibration and trial runs to validate performance. Loco Kavach is a step toward implementing a nationwide safety system aligned with Indian Railways’ goal of zero accidents.
